Pranayama & Yoga Nidra Workshop

WITH ASHLEY JOSEPHINE ZUBERI

Pranayama is the practice of regulating one's breath. During the first part of the workshop, you will learn breathing exercises and its effects on your body and energy. Participating in this workshop is a great way to learn techniques and methods of self-healing through the breath. The first part of the workshop will include the following:

  • An introduction to Pranayama (Breathing Exercises)

  • Overview of several Pranayama techniques

  • Benefits of each type of Pranayama

  • Active participation on how to practice the different techniques

Yoga Nidra is a meditative yoga technique developed thousands of years ago in India. More recently, Dr. Richard Miller, PhD, adapted this ancient meditative form to address the lifestyle stresses brought about by modern living. He calls this form of yoga nidra, iRest, or integrative restoration. iRest yoga nidra sessions allow the practitioner to relax the body, imitating deep sleep, while the mind stays alert. During the second part of the workshop, you will be guided into a wonderful state of deep relaxation.

Yoga Nidra has been proven to effectively reduce the following:

  • PTSD

  • Depression

  • Anxiety

  • Insomnia

  • Chronic pain

Recent research is showing that mindfulness-based practices, such as Pranayama and Yoga Nidra, are ideal interventions for re-shaping neural pathways critical to fostering emotional self-regulation, development of empathy and well-being, resiliency, enhancement of cognitive and emotional skills, ethical decision-making, as well as improving overall physical and mental health.
