I am very grateful to have the opportunity to combine work with my passion. It is my goal to empower others to live a healthy and well-balanced life. I have learned so much on my journey and look forward to sharing my experience. I believe that sharing my story is a good way to inspire others to practice yoga, meditation, and mindfulness. Just like the lotus flower, we all have the ability to rise from the mud and bloom into the world!
For over twenty years, I worked in a corporate setting while also raising three children. I attended my first yoga class many years ago, and loved it right from the start! However, due to my busy schedule, I was unable to attend yoga classes nearly as much as I would have liked. Although I only attended classes sporadically over the years, I noticed that there was much more to yoga than just the physical practice. I always felt more at peace after class.
In 2008, after being married for seventeen years, my husband and I decided to part ways. It was challenging to be a single mother while managing a stressful job at Fannie Mae during the housing crisis. I was dealing with a lot of changes, both at home and at work. The high level of stress and anxiety was affecting me deeply. I finally decided to embrace yoga fully as a way to cope with these unsettling events. I started out slowly, and mainly focused on gentle movements to release tension. I was committed to practice for at least fifteen minutes every single day. Some days I simply sat on my mat and focused on my breath.
After several months, I started to notice a change in my overall sense of well-being. I felt grounded, balanced, and stronger, both physically and emotionally. The experience of connecting the mind, body, and breath on a daily basis was deeply therapeutic. It helped me feel centered and strong even when faced with challenging situations. I discovered that there is great value in practicing yoga, even just for a short time every day. I felt less anxious during this period of transition. Yoga gave me a sense of calmness and clarity. I learned to take things one day at a time and one breath at a time.
In 2010, I met my best friend, my husband of 8 years now. He saw my passion for yoga and knew how deeply inspired I was to share the benefits of yoga with others. I pursued my goal of becoming a yoga instructor and started teaching yoga in 2012. I have since completed my 500-hour Registered Yoga Teacher curriculum (RYT 500) as well as my Dr. Sears Health Coach certification. In 2015, I opened a yoga boutique in Old Town Alexandria that had a warm and welcoming ambience. It brought like-minded people together and created a beautiful community! After three years, I transitioned my business to an online yoga boutique in order to have more time to care for my aging parents. I continue to offer international yoga retreats—my favorite part of the business! I also enjoy hosting events that bring like-minded people together, such as wellness workshops.
I hope to inspire others to nourish their mind, body, and soul by offering inspirational products and services at Marcela’s Yoga Boutique. With my extensive knowledge and personal experience, it is a pleasure to offer my clients advice on yoga and meditation. I recently became a certified Brain Longevity® Specialist with The Alzheimer’s Research and Prevention Foundation (ARPF), and I’m currently enrolled in a Meditation Teacher Training program with Dr. Deborah Norris, the founder of The Mindfulness Center in Bethesda. I offer private sessions in Old Town Alexandria that include health coaching, private yoga classes, and mindfulness meditation sessions. I hope to inspire people to maintain a balanced and healthy lifestyle.
I believe that every single person deserves to feel good inside and out. If a person feels healthy and well-balanced, not only does it benefit that individual, but it also benefits everyone around them. For me, it is truly a pleasure to provide guidance and offer consultations to my clients as they begin their own journey. If I can help make a positive difference in one person’s life, then I know it is all worth it!
I am also a proud mother of three wonderful children. My son is 25, and my daughters are 22 and 18 years old. Spending quality time with my husband and three children is something I truly cherish. I feel that practicing yoga has enabled me to live a happier, healthier, and more fulfilled life. I am honored to be a part of this great community!
The light in me respects and honors the light in each and every one of you.
